DEPARTMENT GOAL

The PE & Wellness Department will aid and assist each student in acquiring essential knowledge and skills required to lead an active healthy life, as well as, participate in a variety of team sports and individual pursuits.


The Department curriculum focuses on main aspects of the Wellness Spectrum: Physical, Social, Emotional and Intellectual.

Our goal is that this knowledge may be applied throughout their lifetime. Students will develop skills in teamwork, citizenship, communication, movement and fitness. Students will be assessed on their cognitive knowledge as well as personal skill development.


DRESS CODE

  • Appropriate athletic clothing is required for all Physical Education
  • activities (unless specifically instructed by your teacher)
  • Appropriate athletic clothing includes such items as: athletic footwear,gym shorts, sweatpants, tee shirts sweatshirts, etc.
  • Consistent with the school dress code students should refrain from wearing the following: midriff shirts, low-cut shirts, tube tops, or off the shoulder shirts.
  • Under garments should not be visible under any articles of clothing such as tank tops, shorts, and pants.
  • It is suggested that students do not wear jewelry for safety reasons.

LOCKERROOM

  • Students are responsible for their own belongings
  • Students are to provide their own locks (the PE/Wellness Staff will provide a lock upon request)
  • Students will remain in the locker-room areas (Aux. Gym hallway or Music/Band hallway) until the passing bell rings. Students may not proceed up the stairs until the bell rings.
  • No food or beverages in the locker-room.
  • Absolutely NO CELL PHONES visible in the locker room AT ANY TIME

GYMNASIUMS & FITNESS/WEIGHT ROOM

  • Proper attire and sneakers must be worn for all classes and activities.
  • No food or beverages (water is permitted)
  • Students are not permitted in the gym or fitness rooms without proper
  • supervision.

CLASS MAKE-UP PROCEDURE

  • Excused absences can be made up on designated days prior to progress
  • reports & report cards.
  • Unexcused absences or class cuts cannot be made up. 2 cuts result inNO CREDIT.
  • A physician note is required for 5 or more consecutive days missed from
  • class.6 or more absences in a Term will result in NO CREDIT (See StudentHandbook)

GRADING GUIDELINES

Activity Grades will be determined by:

25% - Assessment Grade (cognitive based) 75% - Daily Grade

5-point rubric grading system that measures • Preparedness • Participation • Social interaction

• Skills assessment Semester Grades will be the average of all activity & assessment grades. Final Grades will be a culmination of:


Semester 1:

Quarter 1 -45% Quarter 2 - 45%

Final Exam - 15%



Semester 2:

Quarter 3 -45% Quarter 4 - 45%

Final Exam - 15%
